I cannot recommend Spiral Studio enough. It has been a transformative space for me. Sarah and all of the instructors are knowledgeable, compassionate, and welcoming. I look forward to my next JourneyDance and to experiencing more of what they have to offer at Spiral Studio.” –A.L.

“My favorites are the morning classes because they set the tone for my day and the sunshine coming into this space over the city skyline is truly glorious in the morning hours.

“Highly recommend checking out Rori on Wednesday for a gentle but thorough spine unwinding, Geneva on Saturday for the most amazing breath work and rejuvenation of spirit, Sarah on Tuesdays and Sundays for Spiral Flow Yoga that does the whole body good.” —C.G.

“What sets Spiral Studio apart is its trauma-informed approach. Every practice, event, and gathering is thoughtfully designed to create a safe, welcoming, and empowering environment. You can feel the love and intention behind everything they do.” —S.W.

“Spiral Studio is such an incredibly welcoming and beautiful community to be a part of! All of the offerings are rooted in care, compassion, and empowerment. Sarah's amazing JourneyDance classes sparked a passion for dance within me that I didn't even know existed. Embarking on this journey of dance has been transformative in so many ways and continues to bring me more in alignment with my inner compass. I'm super grateful for Spiral Studio.” (:  —A.I.

“Attending classes at Spiral Studio has been wonderful! The community is welcoming and inclusive, and Sarah has been very kind. The space is beautiful and full of life. I’m looking forward to trying more classes and becoming more involved with the community!” —T.P.

“I visited Spiral Studio for the first time on Sunday, May 25, 2025. It was a deeply relaxing, healing, and restorative experience for me. I'm so glad I got to have this experience in community with others. I had procrastinated visiting Spiral Studio because I knew I would have to climb some stairs to get to their studio. It was much easier than I thought it would be to go up the stairs. I felt very comfortable participating at a level that I was comfortable with physically even though some others were able to do more than me. Everyone in the group was very friendly and welcoming. I'm so glad I went and I definitely plan to go back.” —L.S.

“I absolutely love this studio—it has such a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes everyone feel at home, no matter which class they choose. The dance classes are incredibly fun and refreshingly unique—easy to follow at times, yet energizing enough to get your heart pumping. The yoga sessions are just as impressive, offering the perfect balance of challenge and tranquility, leaving you feeling grounded and at peace. Every class I’ve taken here has been a joy, and the beautiful, open space only adds to the experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this studio to anyone looking for a vibrant and local fitness community.” —C.B.

More Than Yoga. More Than Fitness.

“My experience in every single class offering has been positive. Each has invited movement, and stillness, in ways I needed. I used “invited” on purpose, as every offering at the SGC is invitational, honoring that we know ourselves best, and that we show up differently each day and each moment with unique needs and capacities. In moments it feels like the instructors are our guides on our journey back to ourselves.” —N.C.

“I take fitness classes when I want to work out, but I do JourneyDance when I want to heal. I go in knowing that I am going to have a transcendental and transformative experience—a trip without drugs. I know that I will get exactly what I need whether that is strength, empowerment, peace, or something I did not know I was looking for. JD is just as important to me as therapy or meditation; in fact, it is moving meditation. JD is like nothing I have ever experienced before and it has really changed my life and gotten me through some really tough times this past year.

“This isn’t just a dance class, but an opportunity for everyone who experiences it to rise up personally and collectively to nurture our own best selves. Social and cultural revolution starts as a spiritual revolution inside ourselves and reverberates out into the world to change oppressive constructs. I don’t say it lightly that healing the heart heals the world and this dance class—which is not a dance class—is an embodiment of this power and potential in the world.

"Sarah takes me inward to places I couldn’t access myself. I really cannot find words for how grateful I am to Sarah for taking her vision and making it a reality in our community. What she channels with passion and purpose—with a divine connection between the micro and the macro through divine feminine healing—is truly revolutionary." —E.W

“Sarah is a wonderful yoga instructor and I am so delighted that she offers classes via Zoom. Her voice is gentle and soothing and I always feel good about being a part of her class, even when my body doesn't want to fully cooperate.” —E.B.

“I just tried the Spiral Dance Fitness class (Thursday nights) and it was fun! A peppy, full-body workout that is only has challenging as you want to make it. Nice cool down and stretch at the end. I don’t, haven’t, wouldn’t do any kind of fitness dance class (ever!) until now. I had clunky moves and had to make things easier for myself. No one cared. Everyone is moving to their own groove. Oh, and the soundtrack was 🔥.” —C.G.

We Blend Movement, Music, Science, And Intuition To Help You Reconnect With Your Own Rhythm

“Sen is truly gifted in so many ways. I have been to several different sound baths around Maine and Sen’s offerings are so much more powerful than any other sound bath I have experienced. The way that she layers sound and guides meditation is healing on every level, offering an opportunity to rest, relax, and reset in a supportive, beautiful space. The time I spend at Sen’s sound baths is truly a gift.” —S.H.

“I have never done a yoga class before other than at home. I decided to try the Spiral Studio as it seemed like a welcoming, safe space. From the moment I walked into my first class I felt so comfortable and welcome. Everyone is so friendly and the studio is comforting. It has been a helpful way for me to have a ‘reset’ and to feel connected in the community. I’m already finding ways I can carve out more classes into my schedule.” –K.R.

“Spiral Studio has really helped me to learn the importance of moving my body in a way that feels good and has provided me the opportunity to get to know more people in the community and I am incredibly grateful for this.” —A.B

Real Support, Real Connection, And The Radical Permission To Come As You Are.

“This month will mark my 100th class at Spiral Studio! It feels like the perfect time to reflect.

I will preface this by saying that I had never participated in a formalized group yoga class prior to joining Spiral Studio. The idea felt intimidating, and I never encountered a studio where it seemed like I belonged. That changed for me when I first found my way to Spiral Studio (which is so much more than a studio).

I love being called back to my body and my breath, and encouraged to consider ‘what can you soften?’ or ‘what can you release?’ Or to ‘woop’ when I feel it, and to take up space and to honor what I need as this is my practice; it is for me.

Unequivocally, being a member of this community has enhanced my well-being, and not solely on a physical level. The community care ethos that Sarah brings to Spiral Studio disrupts the status quo and elevates an alternative in its place that I take pride in participating in. From the Collective Care Fund Scholarship model to the course and event offerings to the specialized training programs offered to change and care workers in the community, true transformation is happening here. —N.C.

I have been sober for 47 years. I have worked hard to live a sober life and have helped others along the way. Through my work as a counselor, I have been able to understand my trauma and my struggles to heal intellectually, but there has always been a disconnect between my mind and my body and my healing. After losing my husband, healing became impossible and I felt like I was losing myself.

As I struggled, I was encouraged to try other healing modalities and I reached out to Dr. Sarah Hentges, Ph.D., and Owner of Spiral Studio. She suggested JourneyDance and Trauma-Informed Yoga.

These healing modalities have been a powerful experience for me. They connect my mind and my body and help me move through the healing. They are powerful and energizing. I am regaining my purpose. I am connecting, owning my body, and reclaiming me. I am connecting with people and I know I am not alone.  I am learning I am okay. There is more to life, than not drinking. AA works but trauma needs to be treated also. Our issues live in our tissues, as the saying goes, and I have learned the healing power of mind/body movement first hand through my experience with JourneyDance and Yoga.” –B.M.

Connect & Transform Workshops

“Through this workshop and through Sarah’s teaching, I was given the space and training that allowed me to be vulnerable to explore and learn new tools to start to restore myself towards deeper wellness.

Her understanding of hidden disabilities and her willingness to adjust to individuals’ needs made this training a safe place to explore alternative healing techniques. I was able to understand at a deeper level the need to avoid stimulating the nervous system, practicing the techniques in stillness, gaining a deeper understanding of how culture “collaborates for us not to rest” but to perform and to produce and how for years I have carried this stress within my body all in an attempt to be the best at my job.

Being able to observe and experience ways of shedding these layers of stress was indeed empowering for me. I have attended yoga training before but never had the experience of restorative yoga and it was a transformative experience. As a practitioner in the counseling field, self-care is important but we are not often offered such a powerful and transformative workshop as this from a highly skilled teacher.” —B.M.

“Last week, we had the privilege of hearing from Sarah Hentges, PhD, E-RYT 200, YACEP—founder, visionary, and lead curator of The Spiral Goddess Collective and Spiral Studio. Sarah’s presentation was nothing short of inspiring. She shared the powerful and transformative work of her collective, which focuses on trauma-informed yoga and dance, embodiment and somatic movement, healing, and community connection.

We were all deeply moved by Sarah’s passion, compassion, and dedication to creating spaces where people can reconnect with themselves and others through movement. Her ability to intertwine her academic expertise with her holistic offerings showcased not only her vast accomplishments but also her heartfelt commitment to making a positive difference in the community.

Sarah’s approach reminded us of the profound impact that embodied practices can have on individual and collective healing. It was an honor to learn from her, and we left the meeting feeling inspired and energized by her work.” —Tuesday Forum email update

Relax & Breathe Sound Bath Retreats

“Calm. Relaxing. Inviting. Healing to the core. I feel the healing frequencies in the marrow of my bones.” — G.G.

“Sen’s sessions are a beautiful blend of meditation, guided imagery, and sound. She provides informative descriptions of what to expect, and regularly holds space for aftercare. I always feel relaxed and connected to my body after her sessions. Thank you so much for sharing your gift of sound with the community!” — G.K.

“Spiral Studio is spacious but cozy, and Sen was gentle, compassionate, and very helpful for new attendees like myself, orienting me not only to the art and science of sound healing, but to the studio’s weekly offerings, core mission, and values. I loved the guided meditation to transition into rest, and the instrumentation was powerful. Sen provided excellent aftercare instructions and shared a wealth of information of what to expect before, during, and after the sound healing experience. I will definitely be back!” — T.E.
